Dear Thorne Primary Elementary Families and Staff,

It is with great pride and excitement that I write this letter to you as the newly appointed Principal of Thorne Primary Elementary School. I am honored to lead a school with such a rich tradition of family. I was educated in the Bagley district and graduated from Cass Technical High School. I have taught students in grades Kindergarten through the collegiate level, served as an instructional specialist and prior to becoming an Assistant Principal, I served as a reading coach and Success for All Program Facilitator. I believe in servant leadership, and I will work hard to build strong relationships with students, staff, families, and community partners to continue your legacy of success; focusing on academic achievement, social emotional learning, and the unique needs of our school community. I feel very fortunate to be a part of the Westwood Community School District and I am committed to always exploring new ways to connect with families. Your voice is the key to student success, therefore my door is always open.

Parents are always curious about staff qualifications and have a right to know something about the person that they are entrusting their most precious gift to. I always tell people that I was made in Michigan. I hold a Bachelor of Science from Wayne State University, a Masters of Inclusionary Education from University of Detroit Mercy (UDM) and a Doctor of Philosophy from Michigan State University as a Counseling Educational Psychology Special Education Fellow. However, my greatest accomplishment is my role as WM4 (Wife and mother of four children). I enjoy learning new things, exotic foods, and watching the news. My passion for learning new things embodies my growth mindset that I explain with the four T’s. Teamwork, nothing can be accomplished without a partnership between stakeholders.

Transparency, a clear understanding of the facts is needed to determine next steps. Teaching, the reason that school exists and Timeliness, being prompt is important but also understanding that timeliness translates into opportunities for excellence. In closing, I look forward to serving the children, parents, and staff of Thorne Primary and I am grateful for the experience of working within such a vibrant community. With your support, I am certain that our scholars will continue to unleash their potential! Bulldog strong!
